  • Description: The purpose of the Council is to assess and monitor public health issues, trends, and impacts related to marijuana legislation and to make recommendations regarding health warnings, retail marijuana and retail marijuana products safety and product composition, and public health awareness, programming, and related resource needs. The Council is charged with reviewing multi-agency efforts to support collaboration and a unified approach on public health responses related to marijuana and marijuana legalization in the Commonwealth and developing recommendations as necessary; monitoring changes in drug use related to marijuana and marijuana legalization in the Commonwealth and the science and medical information relevant to the potential health risks associated with drug use, and making appropriate recommendations to the Department of Health and the Board of Directors of the Virginia Cannabis Control Authority; and submitting an annual report to the Governor and the General Assembly.
